Bill Tracking System

During the legislative session, hundreds of bills are introduced, often moving quickly, and changing frequently. To stay focused, informed, and accountable to Minnesota’s disability community, we use a bill tracking system to:

  • Track legislation that reflects our legislative priorities
  • Monitor other bills that may affect people with disabilities
  • Share clear, timely information with the public

Our goal is simple: Make disability-related legislation easier to find, understand, and follow.

People can use our website to stay up to date as disability-related bills move through the Minnesota Legislature, from introduction to committee hearings, and beyond.

How Bill Tracking Works

Our Bill Tracker focuses only on bills that affect people with disabilities. When deciding which bills to include, we look for:

  • Language that directly references disability
  • Policies that may impact access, services, rights, or inclusion, even if disability is not explicitly named

We track disability-related bills introduced in both the Minnesota House and Senate.

Bill Tracking at a Glance

The Bill Tracker shows each bill’s ID number, topic category, plain-language summary, authors, links to the official bill page, and current status.

Key details we include:

  • Revisor number (the bill’s ID number)
    • This helps identify whether a bill has a companion bill, a similar bill in the other chamber.
  • Link to the bill text and official information
  • House and Senate chief authors
  • Policy category (find the full list of policy categories on the Bill Tracker page)led
  • Plain-language description of the bill
  • Current bill status:
    • Introduced: The bill has been introduced, but not yet scheduled for a hearing
    • Active: The bill has been heard, or is scheduled to be heard, in committee
    • Held over: The committee did not take action at this time. The bill may come up later, including as part of an omnibus bill (a larger bill that combines many proposals).

As MCD identifies disability-related bills during session, MCD staff add and update information in the Bill Tracker.

How to Use the Bill Tracker

The Bill Tracker page lets visitors:

  • Browse bills by policy category
  • Open the official bill page for full legislative details
  • See who authored the bill
  • Check where the bill is in the legislative process

The page is designed to make legislative information easier to read and navigate, especially for people who may not follow the Legislature day to day.

Legislative Updates and Action Alerts

Throughout the legislative session, our Public Policy team closely monitors activity at the State Capitol. When a bill’s status changes, or when a companion bill is introduced, we update the tracker to reflect the most current, relevant information.

We also share updates on our 2026 Legislative Session page to highlight key developments. These updates may include:

  • Summaries of important bills heard in committee
  • Legislative actions that could affect disability services, rights, or access
  • Context about broader policy shifts that matter to the disability community

If a bill could have significant impacts on people with disabilities, then we may also share:

  • Information about testifying at committee hearings
  • Action alerts encouraging people to contact their legislators

Our approach centers the voices of Minnesotans with disabilities, and it prioritizes lived experience and transparency. That way, people stay informed and can participate in shaping policies that affect their lives.
