Autism Awareness Month Guest Blog by Noah McCourt: If we’re going to have “Autism Awareness Month” than let’s do it right and actually take the time to be more than “aware” about autism and celebrate the value that neurodiversity adds to the human experience in ideology, in perspective, in relationships and in our communities.

Snow and Ice Can Pose Challenges for People with Disabilities
Even when cleared off the street, snow and ice can cause challenges for people with disabilities. Sidewalks, and especially curb ramps, must be cleared if everyone is to have access to their communities.
Keep Sidewalks Clear of Snow and Ice
MCD reminds you to shovel your sidewalks and curb ramps. They are lifelines for many people with disabilities and for our senior community. When sidewalks and curb ramps are not cleared, they can become impassable and create a potentially life-threatening situation for people forced into the street alongside traffic. Please shovel your sidewalk and curb ramps as soon as possible. Don’t wait for the snow to melt!
Minnesota Parks For All
The Minnesota Council on Disability is pleased to announce our #MNParksForAll campaign at the Minnesota State Fair. We call on the Minnesota Legislature to fund an all-inclusive outdoor recreational experience for all Minnesotans, regardless of ability. Stop by our booth at the Fair to learn more about this pressing issue and to pick up gear to show your support!
Enjoyment of State Parks for All
Minnesotans love state parks. However, areas within those state parks are often not accessible to people with disabilities. Commissioners, the MCD Executive Director, and disability advocates all spoke at an event meant to highlight the accessibility of such parks.
REMINDER: Keep Sidewalks Clear
MCD reminds you to please shovel your sidewalks and curb cuts. They are lifelines for many people with disabilities and for our senior community who are trying to get to work, the grocery store, or medical appointments. When sidewalks and curb cuts are not cleared, they can become impassable and create a potentially life-threatening situation for people who are forced into the street alongside traffic. Do the right thing and shovel your sidewalk as soon as possible. Don’t wait for the snow to melt!
