On June 2, 2021, MCD hosted a Commissioner’s Roundtable. The discussion focused on how Minnesota’s state agencies work together to provide programs and services for people with disabilities and how such coordination can lead to more independent lives. We highlight some of the Commissioners’ remarks.
Governor Tim Walz and Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan answered questions for their Budget Engagement Series. Disability advocates must stay vigilant and ensure that our elected officials follow through with their promises. The Minnesota Council on Disability will continue to monitor the budget-making process and advise the Governor and legislators on how to best support and empower the disability community.
Last week, the Minnesota Council on Disability and the Minnesota Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities co-hosted the 2021 Legislative Forum. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we moved the forum to a virtual webinar setting. However, this did not stop nearly 200 Minnesotans, legislators, and the governor’s office from tuning in a participating event.
MCD hosted a discussion around COVID-19’s impact on Minnesota’s disability community. Panelists included the MDH Jan Malcolm and the DHS Commissioner Jodi Harpstead. The conversation was moderated by MCD’s Kody Olson, who serves as the disability advisor to the State Emergency Operations Center.
Do you plan on attending the Minnesota Council on Disability (MCD) Annual Legislative Forum on Thursday, December 17 at 9:00 am? Do you have something on your mind you want to say, a question you need to ask? Call or write your legislator, let them know you would like to see them at MCD’s Annual Legislative Forum.
The MCD Legislative Forum will be an opportunity to inform Senators and Representatives of what we hope to accomplish in the 2021 legislative session. We are committed to advancing policies that promote access, equity, and independence so that Minnesotans with disabilities can live, work, participate, and play in the community of their choice.
