SF 0237: Small School District Disability Access Grants

Senate Education Finance Committee
Chair Mary Kunesh
January 25th, 2023

S.F. 237 – Senator Draheim

Dear Chair Kunesh and members of the Senate Education Finance Committee,

The Minnesota Council on Disability supports S.F. 237 and urges members of this committee to do the same. Small school districts, especially those in Greater Minnesota provide a world class education but often do not have the same resources as large school districts to guarantee disability access.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guarantees the right to building access for students with disabilities, however the obligation of ensuring that access falls on school. When a school lacks adequate resources, building can remain inaccessible for students with disabilities.

S.F. 237 ensures that Minnesota is living up to the obligations to its students with disabilities and that they receive a great education in a building that is accessible and welcoming to everyone.

Please support 237 and students with disabilities.

Sincerely,

Trevor Turner
Public Policy Director
Minnesota Council on Disability
