Accessibility Services at the State Fair

Close-up of a person reading a Braille overlay on top of an art poster.The Minnesota State Fair works to provide equal access and a pleasant experience for all guests. Here are some of the accessibility services the State Fair offers to ensure that the Great Minnesota Get-Together is for Everyone.

Transportation and Parking

The fair provides information for several transportation and parking options. Notice: Parking access is still an issue. We continue to work with the organization to address it.

Transportation and parking options

Mobility Equipment

The following mobility equipment will be available for rent daily from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm daily (9:00 pm on Labor Day). Visitors also have the choice to rent mobility devices for half days.

  • Electric mobility scooters
  • Strollers
  • Wagons

Note: All on-site equipment is available on a first-come basis with no guarantee of availability.

Renting mobility equipment

Service Animals

Service dogs are allowed on the fairgrounds. Service dogs are dogs individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals.

Note: During the Minnesota State Fair, pets are not allowed on the fairgrounds, except for animals approved as part of an exhibition.

Blind and Low Vision Services

The fair offers several services for people who are blind or have low vision, including:

  • Free access to the Aira visual assistance app
  • Audio description for select shows by request
    • Email Accessibility Services or call 651-288-4448. Note: You must request audio description at least 14 days before the show.
  • Prerecorded audio description
  • Large-print schedules and maps

Accessibility Services at the Eco Experience

The Minnesota Department of Commerce announces expanded accessibility services at this year’s Eco Experience. For the first time, American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters and Braille documents will be available at the Energy Information Center exhibit.

ASL Interpreting

The fair offers ASL (American Sign Language) interpreters daily between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

If you would like to request an interpreter for your, you must submit a special request. State Fair personnel will schedule special requests for interpreter services based on availability.

  • Visit Guest Relations at Visitors Plaza.

ASL will also be offered at several shows during the fair. Refer to the Accessibility Guide for details.

Sensory Sensitivity

The fair offers resources for guests to understand the activity around them and spaces for when they need a break.

Joy Mobile: Take a break from the sights and sounds of the fair in a one-stop sensory experience designed to help guests reset and re-engage. Its calming environment provides a range of supportive sensory experiences to reset acoustic, visual, tactile and olfactory senses.

Located north of Loop Gate #9, just south of Judson Avenue. Open daily, 9 am to 9 pm (8 pm on Labor Day).

Fraser Sensory Building: This take-a-break oasis is specially created for fair guests of all ages with sensory-processing challenges who may find the sights, sounds, smells and crowds of the fair overwhelming.

Located on the west side of Cosgrove Street, south of the Home Improvement Building. Open daily, 9 am to 9 pm (8 pm on Labor Day).

Sensory sensitivity information

Accessible Changing Rooms

This year the fair offers to options for accessible changing rooms.

Momentum Refresh: the nation’s first fully accessible, universally designed, mobile restroom equipped with a full-size adjustable changing table, a ceiling hoist (sling not provided) and other amenities.

Located on east side of Cosgrove Street, north of Lee Avenue. Open daily, 9 am to 9 pm (8 pm on Labor Day).

Adult-Size Changing Table: A height adjustable, adult-size changing table is available in Care & Assistance located south of West End Market, open 8 am. to 10 pm daily (8 pm on Labor Day).

Mighty Midway & Kidway

The fair wants make the Mighty Midway & Kidway safe and enjoyable for everyone. Review the Accessibility Guide for the following information:

Mighty Midway & Kidway information

Grandstand Shows

The grandstand offers the following accessibility services:

  • Wheelchair-accessible seating
  • ASL interpretation
  • Assistive listening devices

Guests using wheelchairs may enter by way of the elevators at the east and west ends of the Grandstand, the ramp at the west end of the Grandstand near the elevator, or the Grandstand Ramp from Carnes Avenue. For more information, call 651-288-4427.

The fair offers a Grandstand Accessibility Map (PDF) showing elevators, ramps, seating areas, restrooms, food & drink locations and more.

If you need ASL, you can by tickets in the ASL interpretation section through Etix (800-514-3849) or the State Fair Ticket Office (651-288-4427). You must purchase those tickets at least 14 days before the concert.

You can pick up assistive listening devices from the guest services desk on the east side of the Grandstand Plaza. You will need a valid driver’s license or state ID and a credit card to check them out. The credit card will only be charged if the receiver and headset are not returned or are damaged.
